Dr. Achyuta Samanta to receive Young EDGE Award – 2010

In recognition to his commitment to inclusive growth in the filed of education and efforts to provide education to the educationally deprived section, Achyuta Samanta has been unanimously nominated to receive the prestigious Young EDGE award for the year 2010.

India's premier forum for Higher Education, 'Emerging Direction in Global Education' (EDGE) has been bringing policy makers, industries and educationalists from India and abroad together to a platform to address issues pertaining to excellence in global education. Every year this forum awards outstanding personalities for their contributions in the field of education. While this year's EDGE personality of the Year Award 2010 will be conferred on Prof. Yas Pal for his significant contribution in the field of education over many decades and for the Yash Pal Committee Report to bring significant change in Indian education, Dr. Achyuta Samanta would receive the Young EDGE award for transforming a small ITI into a world class KIIT University and working relentlessly for providing quality education to the children of marginalized sections of people through Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). Samanta's experiment in education has been considered as unique and the selection committee felt that, if replicated it can address some of the core issues faced by the country in the field of education.

In a glittering ceremony organized in India Habitat Center, New Delhi on 4th March, Samanta will receive the award from the Union Minister for HRD, Sri Kapil Sibal in presence of distinguished academicians, education policy makers, planners, national and international jury members of the EDGE forum.

With the award, Samanta comes to be in league with the earlier recipients of the award that includes Sam Pitroda, Montek Singh Ahluwalia etc.

This is really a great news not only for KIIT Family but also for the Odisha. This provides further inspiration and motivation to those who are committed for the cause of educational up-gradation in India.
