Image via WikipediaBhubaneswar: Come January 2012, all roads would lead to KIlT University to have a glimpse of the mammoth congregation of scientists, scholars, students and host of other people from all walks of life. This congregation would not be for a formal meet for the distinguished scientific brains but for the prestigious 99th Indian Science Congress which has been scheduled to be held in the lush green campuses of KIlT - one of the finest universities of the country.
Indian Science Congress, singularly the most important meet for the scientists across the globe in India has remained the most coveted event, every state desiring to hold in its geographical boundaries. Stiff competition, promises for smooth conduct of the session backed by scrutiny and inspection by the Indian Science Congress Association decide in favour of the venue of the session. It is a matter of great pride that Orissa where the Congress has its earlier session in 1977, after a gap of 33 years could get the scope to hold 99th Session of the Indian Science Congress, thanks to consistent efforts of KIlT University and its Founder, Dr. A. Samanta. One year of tireless efforts by KIlT followed by the visit of several important functionaries bore fruit yesterday at Chennai, where the Indian Science Congress had its 98th Session. The General President Dr. Geetha Bali declared the holding of the 99th Session in KIlT University to be organized with academic partnership of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and handed over the necessary documents to Dr. A. Samanta.
While the holding of such a Conference is definitely a matter of great pride for the state yet the Conference of such a magnitude can never be successful without the cooperation of every government and non-government agencies. The forthcoming Session of Indian Science Congress scheduled to be held from January 3-7, 2012 under the Chairmanship of Prof. Geetha Bali, Vice Chancellor, Karnataka State Women's University; Bijapur will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister as customary. While the ISC Session usually attracts more than 10,000 participants from all over the world, the Indian Children's Science Congress held simultaneously with it attracts nearly 5000 young scientists from Secondary and Higher Secondary schools of the country. Total 15,000 junior and senior scientists & academicians will join for 5day including many Nobel Laureates.
As soon as the news of the 99th ISC Conference to be held in KIlT reached here, heaps of praise has been showered on Dr. Samanta from every quarter mostly from the educational institutions of the country. The office bearers of Orissa Science Congress have been overwhelmed and in no uncertain terms they have been praising the efforts of Dr. Samanta and his team, which have already hosted many prestigious conferences, seminars in KIlT, the most significant being the last 92nd Annual Session of Indian Economic Association inaugurated by Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
In his own candid way, Dr. Samanta has urged everyone to make this event successful and hoped that by the grace of God, the efforts of KIlT and NISER and by the support of the State, 99th Session of ISC will be an epoch making event in the history of modern scientific Orissa. The Director of NISER expressed his satisfaction for hosting the science congress with KIIT. As Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh would be the president for Centenary Edition of Indian Science Conference during 2012-13, the 99th Indian Science Congress at KIIT assumes added importance.
